- Thankyou for purchasing NetworkCD by Weird Science.
-
- NetworkCD is about acheiving simple connection between two Amigas,
- a CDTV and an Amiga or a CD32 and an Amiga. The idea is to use the
- remote machine (with CD drive) as a remote storage device for your
- 'master' machine. Imagine the benefits of owning both an Amiga and
- a CD32, enjoying the best of both worlds, and yet still being able
- to access the vast market of CDRoms.
-
- We have provided both Parnet, for networking using the parallel
- connector, and Sernet, for networking using the Serial connector.
- Parnet requires a 'Parnet'cable, Sernet requires a 'Null Modem' cable
- or a special CD32 lead for the CD32. All these are available from
- Weird Science or from most PD Libraries. Parnet is faster however
- Sernet is the only answer for CD32 owners without the expense of
- expantion boxes.
-
- PARNET.
-
- To boot parnet, ensure the cable is connected to both machines
- and do not plug the cable in with the machines switched on. Double-
- Click on Boot-Client on one machine and Boot-Host on the other. Both
- of these are situated in the Parnet directory. This will mount a
- device called NET: or Network: This device can be accessed just like
- any drive, ie. DIR NET:cd0/ will bring up a directory listing for
- the CD drive on the remote machine. Read the documents included for
- more detail.
-
- SERNET.
-
- First we would like to express are thanks and admiration to
- Almathera for managing to get Sernet to work. We have included their
- information on Sernet below:-
-
-
- ' ParNet is easy to start up - SerNet is a little more complex. To
- start SerNet up, click on Sernet. This will open a shell window
- for output of DNet's subtasks, and DNet's own window should open up,
- offering a menu selection of Quit, SendBreak and Start DNet, via the
- right mouse button. SendBreak clears the serial line, for setting up
- the connection, and Start DNet kicks the whole thing off. If DNet
- connects to the remote machine, IE if Start is selected at both ends,
- a chat window entitled 'FTerm' will open up, for typed messages
- between machines. SerNet will then be mounted, as the device SNET:
-
-
- A shell is used as opposed to a normal CON: redirection, so new chat
- windows and DNET control commands can be entered. FTerms can be
- fired up or closed at any point once DNet is running, and will go
- alongside SerNet's operation. To shut down DNet, either enter the
- command QuitDNet in the shell, or use Status to list all processes on
- the system, and breaking DNet's process number with every signal.
- For more information on the Shell and AmigaDOS, consult your
- machine's AmigaDOS manuals.
-
-
- All serial preferences for the various KickStarts on this CD have
- been set at the fastest reliable configuration for DNet - 19200 baud,
- no parity, Handshaking none, 8 data bits read/write and 1 start/stop bit.
- Set the remote machine's serial preferences to match this to achieve
- the correct DNet setup. '
-
- To sum up Sernet, click on the icon Sernet on both machines, place the
- mouse in the DNET window and click on the right button. Go up to the menu
- on the left and select send break, then select Start DNet. It is recommended
- that you do this on the master machine, (not the CD32). Several windows will
- open and you can close this when the set up is complete. Then it is best
- to mount the remote device with the 'MountRemote' icon provided. This gives
- you the device SNET: or Network: and you can then procceed as per Parnet.
-
- SID (Directory Utility)
-
- We have included the evaluation version of SID2 on the CD and
- configured SER and PAR buttons for you to call up the SNET: and NET: devices
- AFTER setting either Sernet or Parnet.
-
- COMMUNICATIONS
-
- Also included are NComm and Term communications programs, these will
- require the Null modem, or CD32 cables. High speed transfers are possible
- between two machines with these programs however it is difficult to use the
- batch transfer facilities without a keyboard. Also included are the programs
- Emit and GetSend. Both of these work at Baud rates of 115200 and are the
- fastest available. However there is a catch.....there always is. They are
- both CLI only. We have set up buttons on SID to send info with them because
- of the lack of keyboard on the CD32, but you will have to get typing on the
- master machine.
